Zinc-Air Battery
The Team who founded and who manages SCPS was pioneering rechargeable Metal-air systems, including Zinc-Air battery for EV, by the middle of the seventies.
The technology was based on a zinc slurry electrode, which was regenerated outside of the battery.
Zinc-Air battery has attractive features : high specific energy, low cost, safety, environment friendliness, ease of recycling and large zinc resources.
But electrical recharge is an issue because of the traditional poor cycling ability of zinc, and the very low reversibility of the air electrode.
The innovative zinc electrode which has been developed by SCPS, primarily for Nickel-Zinc battery, and has demonstrated its very high capability of cycling, is now used in electrically rechargeable Zinc-Air battery.
These works are organized through collaborations with partner laboratories, and present results are very promising.
